2 suffer fatal injuries helping out a friend

When Florida residents get a call from a friend in need, most of them will do what they can to help. Most people never imagine that providing such assistance will put their lives in danger. Sadly, this is what happened to two people who recently suffered fatal injuries while one was lending a helping hand to the other.

A 29-year-old man was driving through a construction zone and got stuck. He called his friend, a 22-year-old woman, and asked for her help. She and her fiance went to his location to help him. After their arrival, a man driving a dump truck stopped to see if he could be of assistance as well.

While the dump truck was backing up, the driver somehow failed to notice that the woman and her friend who was stuck were behind the truck. They were both struck and killed. To make matters worse, the woman was in the last trimester of her pregnancy.

The man who was driving the dump truck began having chest pains after the accident and was transported to Florida Hospital for treatment. His current condition is not known. The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation, and a decision has not yet been made regarding whether to file any charges in connection with this incident but they say that charges are pending.

The families of the two victims retain the right to file wrongful death claims. If the evidence presented to the court indicates that the fatal injuries suffered by the victims were due to the negligence of another, an award of damages could be ordered. Any monetary restitution the families receive could help with the unexpected financial losses that accompany tragedies such as this.

Police are investigating cause of fatal car accident

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday, January 25, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were called to the scene of a crash on Interstate 4. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered that the car accident was fatal. Two people lost their lives and a third suffered severe injuries.

Preliminary reports show that a pickup truck and a car were both traveling in the same direction on the interstate. At some point, the car — which was traveling behind the pickup truck — slammed into the back of the truck. The impact sent the pickup over the guardrail.

During the crash, the 35-year-old driver of the pickup truck and one of its passengers, a 21-year-old man, were thrown from the vehicle. Both of them suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The second passenger, also a 21-year-old man, survived the crash with severe injuries. He was taken from the crash site by helicopter. At last report, he remained hospitalized, and his condition was considered to be critical.

The driver of the car that rear-ended the truck, a 27-year-old man, suffered only minor injuries. The investigation is ongoing. However, troopers did confirm that charges are pending.

The families of the two deceased victims retain the right to file wrongful death claims in connection with this tragic car accident. Furthermore, the surviving passenger may file a personal injury claim as well. If it is established that the victims’ injuries — fatal or otherwise — were due to the negligence of another, a Florida court might consider awarding damages to the victim’s families and the survivor.
