4 killed in car accident during foggy conditions

Four people lost their lives and another was injured after a tragic crash on a highway. Fog may have been a contributing factor in the car accident.  Florida authorities closed down the road for 40 miles.

The accident happened on a recent early morning near the Everglades and involved multiple vehicles. Upon a preliminary investigation, authorities say that a tractor-trailer that was headed in the southbound direction lost its trailer when it detached from the vehicle. It is not known what caused the trailer to detach, but multiple vehicles apparently slammed into the trailer. The collision caused the highway to be shut down for hours in both directions.

A number of tractor-trailers were on the side of the road, and at least one automobile sustained a large amount of damage. One of the victims was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment of his or her injuries. No other information about this matter was disclosed.

Unfortunately, a car accident can cause serious injuries and even death in some cases. In cases such as this one, in which poor vehicle maintenance may be to blame, victims and the families of deceased victims may choose to file personal injury or wrongful death suits against the person, manufacturer or business whose negligence caused the accident. When such lawsuits are presented in Florida civil courts, along with evidence to support the negligence, courts may award compensation to the victims and the families for their losses, which can include medical expenses, funeral-and-burial costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Florida man seriously injured, wife dies in fatal crash

A husband’s life is changed forever after he was involved in a car accident. He was critically injured in a fatal crash that also killed his wife. Florida authorities say that three other drivers suffered minor injuries.

The tragedy unfolded on a recent Tuesday afternoon when a nine-vehicle crash occurred along the interstate. Police say that the driver of a semi-truck slammed into the back of a man’s SUV as he was stopped in traffic. The impact caused a chain reaction, and seven other vehicles became involved. The SUV driver’s wife, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was declared dead at a hospital.

The man was taken to Lee Memorial where he was listed in critical condition. The driver of the semi told police that he did not realize that traffic came to a stop. Authorities issued the driver a citation for careless driving. They are still investigating the accident.

Negligent acts of drivers can lead to injuries and death for others using our roadways. A family who is left grieving their loved ones as the result of a fatal crash may wonder if there is any legal recourse. They retain the right to file a wrongful death claim against the party believed to have been responsible. As may have been the case in this tragedy, if a big rig driver negligently causes an accident while on-the-job, both the trucker and the trucker’s employer may be named as defendants. The claim would be adjudicated in the Florida civil court system, and a monetary judgment could be entered if the submitted evidence establishes that the party sued was negligent in a manner that caused or contributed to the fatal accident.
